The RivierPark Maasvallei is an exceptional nature park with the wild Maas taking center stage. The Maas is not only an impressive rain river, but also serves as a 40 km border between Belgium and the Netherlands. Over the centuries, it has sculpted a diverse and fascinating landscape.

A maze of old river arms, levees, flow channels, gravel banks, cut-off meanders, dikes, and floodplains emerged... with some well-defined Maas villages adjacent. High and low water levels brought great diversity. Gravel, sand, and clay form the basis for the typical fauna and flora.

On the border of Belgian Limburg, Dutch Limburg, and the Dutch North Brabant lies the KempenBroek, recognized by Unesco as a Man & Biosphere area. It is a scarcely discovered cross-border area that stretches across the municipalities of Bocholt, Bree, Kinrooi, and Maaseik, Cranendonck, Weert, and Nederweert. You will find hidden gems that may not immediately reveal their secrets but are worth discovering. Surprising in their charm, secretive and hidden. The area is so versatile that there is something for everyone: unspoiled paths along mysterious swamps, stream valleys, heathlands, and agricultural areas. There are four silence areas where you can truly relax. It is teeming with life from animals such as the beaver, red deer, tree frog, large grazers, and many dragonfly species. Walkers, cyclists, riders, drivers, and mountain bikers can enjoy the landscape, nature, and heritage like the many mills at their own pace via signposted routes. The area is brimming with delicious farm and regional products. Once a hideout for goat riders and smugglers, it is now a wonderful place to discover space and hear silence.
